Governor Bush has proclaimed March 30, 2005 as Florida Suicide
Prevention Day – Promoting Education and Awareness for Suicide Prevention
Please
join grassroots advocates, survivors of suicide, members of the coalition
and task force at the state capitol to increase awareness of the impact
suicide has on our
Florida families and communities and support suicide prevention
efforts.
Florida
has taken a significant step toward preventing suicide by initiating the
Florida Suicide Prevention Strategy to
reduce the incidence of suicide in our state by one third by the end of
2010. The strategy is designed to serve as both a guide and action
agenda to reduce suicide in Florida, to have a lasting impact in bringing
suicide to the forefront as a public issue, and over time to save thousands
of lives that would otherwise be taken by their own hands.
Schedule of events
Displays set up in the Rotunda from 8:30 – 4:00
Legislative visits from
8:30 - 4:00 – This was a great opportunity to educate our Florida
Senators and Representatives on how suicide impacts the counties in their
districts and to ask them to support the bills creating a Statewide Office
for Suicide Prevention.
